I challenge you!

A big part of my new exercise regimen these days has been pedaling away on my road bike hooked up to an indoor trainer. Strangely satisfying.

And no, it’s not nearly as glorious as the Peloton and NordicTrack ads make it look for those people. Those thin beautiful people. I don’t have my cycling setup located in some neat and orderly room in the house that’s beautifully furnished and surrounded by windows so that it looks out on some immaculate view. Far from it.

Mine is tucked away in the dusty corner of our poorly lit dusty storage room surrounded by banker boxes and paint cans. No one’s going to be filming a commercial down there.

Anyway, to make the most of it as a form of exercise, I’ve also been making use of audio cycling routines on an exercise app on my phone. That’s a new thing for me. And I’m getting used to it, and growing into it.

It’s not uncommon for the trainer to say something like, “I challenge you to give me more right now! Imagine how you want to feel when this workout is over. And now ask yourself, ‘What do I have to give right now so that I feel that way then?’ And I challenge you to give it!”

And that, my friends, is gold.

And not just for cycling. What I want to say here is that that’s a valuable perspective on life, and on so many things that make up a typical day in the life.

Whether it’s exercise, or work, or tech habits, or snacking habits, or relationships, or time commitments… How can I go about this day so that when I reach the end of the day I feel the way I know I’ll want to feel?

And if that means stretching beyond your comfort zone…

Well…

I challenge you.

Reach and stretch and do it.

At the end of the day you’ll be glad you did. And you’ll be even more likely to do it again tomorrow.

From strength to strength.
